Every Guest Is A Hero by Author Adam Berger – Book Review by Sharon Judy

As I began reading this book I fell in love with the Introduction…Decoding Disney’s Theme Parks. As the first few paragraphs bring out that when you enter the parks you will find your spirits uplifted, your sense of adventure heightened, your concerns with the outside world fade away. How true? So much so you may ask yourself “What’s going on here?”

Disney is the master of storytelling. Everything from costumes, architecture, lighting, music and even smells are planned down to the most minute of details. You are immersed in so much detail it’s hard not to be an active participant in the storytelling. Just look at all the Mickey and Minnie ears and all the Goofy hats that pass you by. We think nothing of it but if we were to see that at the local grocery store we would think how silly that was.

Adam M. Berger takes us into 10 attractions and gives us a scene by scene take on Disney’s storytelling. My favorites being Pirates of the Caribbean and Under the Sea- Journey of the Little Mermaid. He takes us into the world of imagineering and why Walt did things the way he did. When he gave his speech at the opening of Disneyland on July 17,1955 he began “To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land.” This is now the foundation of every Disney theme park. Enticing us to return again and again as Adam so eloquently states.

So become your own hero and pick up this book and become immersed in Disney’s storytelling.
