My Interview with Producer/Writer of Walt Before Mickey: Arthur L. Bernstein By Guest Blogger Chelsea Pulver

February 27, 2015 By Tony Caselnova

Walt before Mickey movie poster

Walt Before Mickey is a movie based on a book of the same name by Timothy S. Susanin. It’s the only movie approved by the Disney family and even has a forward by Walt’s daughter Diane Disney Miller! It tells the story of Walter (Walt) Elias Disney’s Early Years, 1919-1928, from his days in Kansas City, MO, at Laugh-O-Gram Studios to Los Angeles, CA, and Disney Brothers Studios, now known as Walt Disney Studios or the Walt Disney Company. The tentative release date is April 18 or 19, 2015.

Walt Before Mickey is directed by Khoa Le, was produced and written by Armando Gutierrez and Arthur L. Bernstein, and has a pretty stellar cast for being a low-budget independent film. Some of the cast includes Thomas Ian Nicolas (American Pie) as Walt, John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) as Roy Disney, David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place) as Rudy Ising, and Jodie Sweetin (Full House) as Charlotte Disney!

Read Chelsea’s interview with producer/writer Arthur L. Bernstein plus see a trailer and photos of the movie!

Here at Disney Parks Podcast, we had the pleasure of having Mr. Bernstein visit our show recently!

Dress Up Your Mickey Ears! Covears: A Review Written By Sharon Judy

February 27, 2015 By Tony Caselnova

How Bout Them Ears!

Disclaimer: I received a free pair of Covears to try so I could bring you my honest opinion. This did not effect my review, all thoughts are my own.

Back in West Virginia where I am from our football motto is “how bout them eers” for the Mountaineers. So how funny living in Florida near Disney World I can have the same motto “how bout them ears”. Just spelled a different way… LOL

covears2

You can take any pair on Mickey ears and make them your own by covering them in this stretchy fabric. There are 8 designs to pick from. Mine was the red and white polka dots. I paired them with the wedding ears because my anniversary is coming up.

These Covears are super cute and at $9.95 each you can get different looks from your ears. Storing Covears does not take a lot of space, which is also a plus. My only critiques for Covears is the seam doesn’t lay flat against the top of the ears and it is single stitching. Click on the photo above to be taken to the Covears store and check them out for yourself!

Production on “Pete’s Dragon” Begins in New Zealand! By Guest Blogger Josh Snyder

February 25, 2015 By Tony Caselnova

PRODUCTION ON “PETE’S DRAGON” BEGINS IN NEW ZEALAND

STARRING BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD, OAKES FEGLEY AS PETE AND ROBERT REDFORD

BURBANK, Calif. (February 10, 2015) – Principal photography on “Pete’s Dragon” commenced today in New Zealand. A reimagining of the 1977 Disney classic, “Pete’s Dragon” will blend live action and CGI to tell the story of the special bond between an orphaned boy, Pete, and his best friend, Elliott, who just happens to be a dragon.

The film stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“The Help”) as Grace, a park ranger who discovers the existence of Elliott; 10-year-old Oakes Fegley (“This is Where I Leave You”) as Pete; Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”) as Jack, a local mill owner; New Zealand native Karl Urban (“Star Trek Into Darkness”) as Jack’s brother, Gavin; Oona Laurence as Natalie, the young girl who befriends Pete; and Oscar® winner Robert Redford (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “All the President’s Men”) as Grace’s father.

“Pete’s Dragon” is directed by David Lowery (“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”) and produced by Jim Whitaker, with Barrie Osborne serving as executive producer. The screenplay is by Lowery and Toby Halbrooks. WETA Digital, the visual effects company founded by filmmaker Peter Jackson based in New Zealand, will utilize the latest in digital effects to bring the dragon, Elliott, to life. The film is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters in August, 2016.

“This is a story about how magic can enter one’s life and change the way they see the world. And I think David Lowery is the perfect director to bring this project to life,” says Whitaker.

The production begins shooting in and around Wellington before moving north to the Rotorua area, and will complete principal photography in the South Island communities of Tapanui and Invercargill.

Film New Zealand, the country’s national film office and sister agency Film Wellington assisted the Walt Disney Studios in assessing and confirming New Zealand for the production.

“New Zealand has long been a wonderful partner for film production. Wellington’s state-of-the-art facilities and filmmaker-friendly community, in particular, make it an ideal location to shoot and be based out of,” says Osborne.

ABOUT DJ TONY CASELNOVA
My enthusiasm for all things Disney all started when my parents took our family to WDW for a vacation. My first trip was at age 13. Since that first time, I have made a trip to WDW almost every year from age 13. As far as I knew there was only one place to vacation! My fascination with WDW began on that first trip. I wanted to know how things at WDW operated and what made it so magical. I wanted to know details like how many people worked there and the length of the monorail track. It is that fascination that fueled my interest in WDW. Each year that my family vacationed at WDW, I learned more about WDW as they built more parks and added more attractions. I am not the average fan; I want to know all the details and I love researching the facts of WDW. I research facts through the Internet, books and DVDs. To me, the best part is to conduct research trip at WDW. After college, my father was transferred to Orlando and I moved with my parents. Seeking employment, I applied for a job at WDW. I passed the first rounds of interviews and was proud to join the Disney family as a security cast member! The job was great. It included Disney-specific training and security training before assuming four duties: driving a security vehicle, standing a post, working in a resort or walking a park or other area. Sometimes I even had special duties like working the Epcot Christmas Processional. I would escort the celebrity guests from backstage to onstage. Interestingly, every cast member is given a WDW fact book monthly to aid in answering guest questions. The pocket book contained great Disney facts that added more fuel for my thirst of Disney facts. Well, all-good things must come to end so we moved back to NJ. In the summer of 2010 I moved back to Florida I am now living in Orlando less then 15 minutes from WDW and living the dream and have fun along the way. You can catch me over at DisneyByTheNumbers.com!

Epcot Hidden Gem: Wine Walk in World Showcase By Guest Author Mary Morales

February 17, 2015 By Tony Caselnova

Got Wine? Join us in March for a Wine Walk!

Many of you may have heard of or even attempted the unofficial “Drink Around the World” in the Epcot World Showcase. But did you know that Epcot, does have an official, although smaller scale, activity called the Wine Walk? The Wine Walk is available year round and allows you to experience some of the wine offerings in France, Italy and Germany. The cost of this activity is $20 and includes six two(ish) ounce pours, two per country. You can purchase your passport at any of the three countries, which includes a listing of the wine offerings
wine6

wine5

You get a stamp in your passport for each pour and you are able to enjoy these at your leisure as you explore the world showcase area. You get two pours per country and may have them both at once or save them and come back for round two. I enjoy having a pour and pairing it with some of the samplings available in the pavilions.
The locations of the wine walk are as follows: Weinkeller in Germany, Enoteca Castello in Italy and Les Vins de France in France. You can start at any of these locations and go in any order you choose.

wine

One of my favorite food pairings is located at the Weinkeller. They offer a lovely Cheese plate of three tasting portions with amazing pretzel bread crostini and other accompaniments. This is approximately $5 and is not included with the wine walk fee but makes a really nice addition.
wine4

What I love most about the wine walk, is that you choose what you want to pair with your pours, if anything, and how you utilize your pours. Whether it’s a pastry or dessert from France, gelato in Italy or a bratwurst in Germany, it’s your call and all at your pace.
Come and join myself, Ramon Rodriguez of Theme Park Concierge and Krista Joy of Disneyways on March 21, 2015 for an epic wine walk event in the World Showcase. Enjoy some wine, the Flower and Garden Festival and some great company. Hope to see you there!!!
