Quote of the week

The natives over there are cannibals. They eat liars with the same enthusiasm as they eat honest men.

Notes from Trish @DreamSweetsLove on twitter! “You may remember last time I was on the podcast I mentioned how it rarely snows at Tokyo Disney Resort and how at the most we might get 1 or 2 days of snow and that it melts rather quickly. Actually, the news from TDR this week is that we have had an exceptionally heavy snow fall, the heaviest in 45 years. Of course yours truly was foolish enough to go out in this snow storm and met with a friend at Tokyo DisneySea. This was not a very smart idea! It was cold and painful and while at times incredibly beautiful, I’m not sure I would do it again.
Let’s say you find yourself at the parks on a snow day or unexpected snowstorm, here are some tips to help you survive:
Tip 1: The first thing you should do is to keep warm and dry. Wear waterproof boots and gloves. Because of the strong winds that are typical in the bay area you should probably have a raincoat in addition to your umbrella because odds are your umbrella will not make it all day. Japan also has something called “Kairo” (pronounced Kah-ee-roh) these are little pouches that when exposed to air heat up and you can keep them in yur pockets to warm your hands, they also come as shoe inserts to warm your feet. You can find many winter goods at the parks including kairo but if you want something for more severe weather you can check the shops at Ikspiari, TDR’s version of Downtown Disney.
Tip 2: If you are not staying on property have a plan to get home! Trains and buses may halt operation in severe weather conditions such as the recent snow storm we just went through. The good news is that there will be an in park announcement when trains and buses are getting ready to stop running. To be honest though it is better to leave before this announcement is made because at this point you are looking at a very crowded and delayed public transportation and the line for taxi’s will seem endless.
Tip 3: Keep warm with a hot “free” drink! You know how the US parks will give you ice water if you ask? Well at TDR you can ask for hot water which can be a lifesaver in the winter. Just ask “O-yu kudasai” (pronounced Oh-yoo Koo-dah-sah-ee), bring along some tea bags or hot cocoa powder to put in the hot water and you are ready to brave to cold again.
Tip 4: Please listen to the cast. It is incredibly difficult and demanding conditions that they are working in when inclement weather hits and they have your safety as a top priority. Some areas will be blocked off due to dangerous conditions and they will re-direct you to a safe route you can take. They will also be station at points were the ground is slick, there is danger of large amounts of snow falling, etc.”
