A Budget-Friendly Disney Trip

August 2, 2021 By Tony Caselnova

This getaway you are considering to book right now at Walt Disney World might be your first, or you may have vowed that it will be the only one ever, for all eternity, after having calculated the costs. How could it be so expensive?

Don’t despair! There are ways to save money on your Walt Disney World vacation without sacrificing the Disney experience. It’s simply a matter of intelligent planning and knowing where to smooth out (not cut) corners. If you find visiting on a budget enticing, do it with these tips in mind:

  • Travel Off-Season. Rates are historically lower January through early February, and September through mid-November. There are exceptions: avoid holidays, holiday weekends and runDisney marathon weekends. Also, avoid school breaks- not just the obvious blissful summer months, but also the nightmarish  spring breaks.

  • Avoid Weekends. Somewhat briefed in the first tip, yet this tidbit is more specific. If you can, don’t check-in (or out) on a Friday or Saturday. Room rates are significantly higher on the weekends. If you are flying over to Florida, the same rule applies to flight costs. In fact, Fridays and Sundays are usually the most expensive days to fly.

  • Stay on Property. I know. There’s a great divide on this topic.  However, there are benefits to staying on property, and it may even be more cost-efficient. Military members and Florida residents, for instance, receive exclusive discounts and deals. There are also seasonal promotions that make the stay more manageable. In addition to the perk of extended park hours (beginning October), all Guests driving in and staying at a Disney Resort hotel also receive complimentary standard parking at Disney theme parks. Another cost to consider if booking off-site are the hidden fees, as most resorts do often charge resort fees.

  • Compare Resorts. Walt Disney World does offer budget-friendly accommodations, and I’m not just referring to their better known Value Resorts. There are also hotels affiliated with Walt Disney World, on property yet not Disney-owned, where you may be able to utilize loyalty rewards, such as at the Holiday Inn, Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott hotels. Many times, these hotels offer Guests special savings as well. Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels, for example, offer a “Passport to Savings” booklet featuring discounts on shopping, dining, and entertainment at Disney Springs.

  • Take Advantage of Freebies. Instead of buying water, ask for ice water at Quick-Service dining locations. It’s free. Drink a lot of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, soda, lemonade, or anything else that can pour from a Coca-Cola Machine? Buy a refill mug. It’s not free, yet it can be an exceptional value given that most non-alcoholic beverages average over $3 each. For $19.99, you may purchase an insulated, refillable mug or upgrade to the stainless steel mug for $29.99, though the later is not the most cost-efficient and essentially just a nice souvenir to commemorate your trip. Refills are unlimited, that is, limited to three refills per hour. Be aware, it can only be used at Quick-Service locations at Disney Resort Hotels and not at any of the theme parks nor waterparks.

  • Do Character Breakfasts, not Dinners. A sit-down breakfast is, generally, cheaper than a sit-down dinner. If a character meal is a must on your to-do list, schedule it in the morning. The same rule applies to the all-you-care-to-enjoy meals: breakfast always costs less.

  • Stick to Quick-Service Dining. There are several fast-casual dining locations that offer even better and tastier meals than some sit-down restaurants. Plan ahead and check the menus on Walt Disney World’s website. Here, you can view menu offerings and budget your meals with current pricing of each food and beverage item. Food carts and kiosks also offer snacks that can be a meal for a light eater. If you choose to resort hop and dine at a Quick-Service location at a Disney Resort hotel, remember to bring your refill mug along- it can be used at any of Disney’s hotels, even if you are not staying there.

  • Order from the Kid’s Menu. If you decide to purchase the Disney Dining Plan once it returns, know that adults cannot order from the Kid’s Menu. Without the plan, though, you can order smaller, kid portioned meals which are also cheaper.

  • Order Groceries. Mentioned in a previous blog, How to Order Groceries at Your Resort, ordering essentials like water, milk, juice, breakfast items, and snacks (need I mention alcoholic beverages, too?) will save you a considerable amount of money during your vacation- just keep in mind that some companies do charge a delivery fee and require a minimum order.

  • Use Your Credit Card. More specifically, shop with your Disney Premier Visa Card or Target RED Card. The Target RED Card is especially useful for purchasing Disney Gift Cards that can be used towards payment of the trip, buying souvenirs, food, and other purchases. Target offers 5% cash back when you purchase those gift cards with a RED Card. As for Disney Cardmembers, most purchases earn up to 2% cash back in Disney Reward Dollars that can be redeemed toward Disney vacations, dining, and shopping. Using the card at Disney Parks can also save up to 10% on shopping and dining at select locations.

What are your money-saving hacks for a budget-friendly vacation?

INFO: How to Celebrate Special Moments at Walt Disney World

April 12, 2021 By Tony Caselnova

One of the few questions asked both at booking and upon arrival at a Walt Disney World Resort is “Are you celebrating anything during your stay?” It can be any milestone- anniversary, birthday, graduation- or even a remission from an illness- Disney wants to celebrate the moment with you! So, if you are commemorating something special, let a Cast Member know- you’ll receive a unique button to wear and show off your reason for celebration! Chances are, though not guaranteed, that a little pixie dust may be sprinkled on you during your stay, when and where you least expect it!

There are a few ways you, too, can sprinkle pixie dust for someone celebrating at Disney World. Disney’s own full service florist, Disney Floral & Gifts, creates customizable baskets (even boozy baskets), Disney-themed floral arrangements, balloon bouquets, and in-room celebrations with all the ribbons and bows. You can also order a Celebration Cake, in advance, from the Cake Hotline 407-827-CAKE(2253). A Mickey Mouse, dome-shaped cake can be delivered to most resorts and participating dining locations for $35 pls tx.

Amorette’s Patisserie is another Disney-based location that bakes delectable desserts and specialty cakes that vary in size and theme, from Petit ($16) to Signature ($75). Call 401-934-3500 or stop in the bakery, located in the Town Center at Disney Springs.

Want to deliver something even more exceptional?

There are some very talented, Orlando-based entrepreneurs (even former Disney employees) who know a thing or two about creating magical Disney moments – and they deliver straight to Disney resorts!

Magical Charcuterie

Care for cheese boards, salami, and fruits? Magical Charcuterie offers mouth-watering charcuterie boxes and trays with a special touch of Disney. Orders are customizable, even for those looking for Gluten-Free or Keto-Friendly offerings. There are so many varieties to choose from, with combinations appealing for kids and adults.

A New Hope Confections

Chocolate lovers will melt for the heavenly sweet treats from A New Hope Confections. This candy store is best known for creating Star Wars themed chocolates, yet their recent Animal Kingdom custom box proves their talents go beyond lightyears. You can find out more about this duo team of candy makers on Instagram @anewhopeconfections and their Facebook business page.

Waterside Bakes

Can’t decide between flowers or something to satisfy a sweet-tooth? Waterside Bakes delivers- not just to the resorts, yet to the eyes and taste buds as well! Just name the character or ‘Disneybounding’ theme for an extraordinary display of luscious buttercream cupcake bouquets! Gluten-Free orders are also available upon request. Check out all of their amazing cupcake creations on Instagram @watersidebakes and Facebook.

No matter the occasion, taking in the moment at Walt Disney World will make it undeniably memorable. Just being there makes it extra special. It is, after all, the most magical place on Earth! And that, on its own, is deserving of a celebration!

Will you be celebrating a special occasion at Walt Disney World?

Have you ever experienced a pixie-dusted moment?

Happy Holidays! Festive Fun Begins Today at Walt Disney World Resort

November 15, 2020 By Tony Caselnova

The holiday season at Walt Disney World Resort starts today, and we’re unwrapping more details about the magical experiences happening across our theme parks and Disney Springs, including special pop-up appearances by Santa Claus. Read on for all the festive fun!

Magic Kingdom Park

Your favorite characters don their holiday best and celebrate the season in a series of special cavalcades, complete with Christmastime floats and music. From Mickey and friends trimming a tree to Goofy and his pals whipping up a bakeshop full of scrumptious treats, character cavalcades bring holiday spirit to the streets of Magic Kingdom throughout the day. And keep your eyes open for Santa when he glides down the parade route in his sleigh.

Holiday decor at Magic Kingdom Park

Main Street, U.S.A. is the spot to catch the Holiday Trolley, bringing festive harmonies from the Dapper Dans barbershop quartet, and you may just see some Toy Soldiers joining the Main Street Philharmonic when they march through Magic Kingdom playing their merry melodies.

At night, holiday magic brings a festive look to Cinderella Castle with special projection effects, producing a kaleidoscope of designs including festive stripes and dots, a whimsical Christmas sweater look, a jeweled winter castle and a regal overlay of red, green and gold ornamentation. It’s sure to provide the perfect colorful backdrop for your holiday photos.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Holiday fun returns to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, bringing unique seasonal décor and a flurry of festive flotillas with favorite Disney characters sailing down the Discovery River to a jolly holiday soundtrack.

Holiday decor at Disney's Animal Kingdom

“Donald’s Dino Bash Festive Flotilla” takes its seasonal celebration to the water, with character friends waving to everyone as they pass, and Chip ‘n’ Dale jingle through the jungle, bringing their own style of holiday flair to the river. The Discovery Island Drummers cruise along, too, entertaining guests on the shore with an energetic holiday beat. And when Santa Claus makes the trek to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, he’ll spread the joyous spirit of the season to all he sees along the way.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios get their own visit from Santa when he brings glitz and glamour to a motorcade down Hollywood Boulevard, led by an entourage of elves and riding in his red convertible packed with presents. And just in time for the holiday season, “For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration” adds a festive finale, featuring everyone’s favorite snowman, Olaf, and celebratory songs of the season.

Holiday projection effects on the Hollywood Tower Hotel at Disney's Hollywood Studios

After dark, the iconic Hollywood Tower Hotel on Sunset Boulevard will twinkle with projection effects as it becomes the Hollywood Holiday Tower Hotel, magically transforming into a Muppets gingerbread masterpiece, a Toy Story toy hotel, a snowy corner of Arendelle and a Dickensian village inspired by “Mickey’s Christmas Carol.”

Disney Springs

The holidays arrive at Disney Springs on Nov. 7, when the area will transform into a winter wonderland, full of sparkling lights, enchanting décor and holiday surprises. Disney Springs is the place to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list – including yourself!  And here, you’ll want to take a break and savor the comforting flavors of the season.

As you wander, you can enjoy the Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll presented by AdventHealth, with elaborately decorated, Disney-themed trees appearing throughout the shopping, dining and entertainment district. There will also be music-playing DJs during the day, and in the evening, stilt-walking toy soldiers, skating snowflakes and a magical snowfall will add a touch of wonder for holiday shoppers at surprise locations.

Santa and Mrs. Claus are also making the trip to Disney Springs this year, where later in November you’ll be able to catch them soaking up their last bit of Florida sunshine before their big night. Look for them cruising Lake Buena Vista and sharing Christmas wishes from a pair of colorfully decorated pontoon boats.

Sleep Like a Royal in Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort’s Royal Suite

December 21, 2014 By Tony Caselnova

Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up in the Royal Suite to ring in the New Year?  Introducing the Royal Suite at Four Seasons Orlando, a stunning 3,300 square-foot suite that can expand to up to a 9-bedroom residence, and has views of the nightly Magic Kingdom Park fireworks from the spacious private terrace.

ORL_435_aspect16x9[1]

Stunning Royal Suite can configure to a nine bedroom residence, and entire 16th floor can be reserved for The Ultimate Suite Experience.

Dec. 17, 2014 (Orlando) – There’s always an allure to a Presidential Suite, the most coveted, premiere accommodations offered at a property.  At Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, there’s not just one top suite—there’s two—and  one suite can be configured up to a nine bedroom residence, creating the ultimate penthouse retreat.

The stunning Royal Suite and Presidential Suite on the resort’s top guestroom floor are similar in size, with differences in view and select design features.  Both of the suites feature state-of-the-art audio/visual integration, including a concealed media screen and projector which drops down from the ceiling in the master bedroom, and in-mirror televisions in the master bathroom.  Both suites feature motorized draperies controlled from a central touchpad system, to conceal or expose the expansive views.  The Royal Suite offers views of the nightly Magic Kingdom Park firework display, while the Presidential Suite offers views of the nightly Epcot park firework display.

From the spacious, open layout, to the opulent design features and breathtaking views, guests will definitely feel like royalty in one of Four Seasons Resort Orlando’s premier suites.

“We’re seeing a lot of multi-generational travel, especially here in Orlando,” said Thomas Steinhauer, general manager of Four Seasons Orlando. “It’s unique to have a suite that connects to as many as nine bedrooms.  There’s always demand for a presidential suite, and we are proud to be able to offer two top suite options.”

The suite includes a vaulted great room, a master bedroom, a media room, a private office, and a pantry kitchen. The main suite entry features an Espresso Granite and French Blue Limestone patterned floor with white Venetian plastered walls and modern crystal lighting.  The great room provides a spacious living space with floors of polished Espresso Granite and wool and silk custom area rugs flanked by a dining area and family room with fireplace surrounds in granite and black mosaic glass.  Jewel-like crystal bangle lighting elements combine with modern furnishings in cream and taupe to create a sophisticated aesthetic.  Expansive 16th floor views are framed with electronically-controlled ice blue silk drapery opening out onto a 1,000 square-foot (93 square meters) wrap-around terrace with lounge seating and exterior dining table.  The outdoor living space is ideal for viewing the Magic Kingdom Park fireworks, which typically occur nightly.

The Royal Suite features a media room with sound absorbing panels in a black and taupe palette.  A silk and wool hand knotted shag carpet in a lineal pattern provides a luxurious touch.  The Audio/Visual system is fully integrated into the design of the media room.

Additional coordinating bedroom suite units and as many as six additional connecting guestroom suites provide the ability to expand the Royal Suite to a nine bedroom residence.

The rate for a one-night stay in the one-bedroom Royal Suite is USD 14,000.

A Tale of Christmas

November 4, 2014 By Tony Caselnova

Every year, from the end of November till the end of December,Epcot plays host to Epcot’s Candlelight Processional. Held in the America Garden Theater located in between the Japan and Italy pavilions, this is a wonderful retelling of the biblical tale of Christ’s birth.

IMG_0122.JPG
This event features a full orchestra and choir as well as a celebrity narrator. This is one of the most popular events during the holiday season. The event is included with price of admission into Epcot but seats for the 3 shows per day fill up quickly with people waiting in the standby line for hours to secure their seat. The other very popular option is to purchase a Candlelight Processional Dining Package. This includes either lunch or dinner in some of Epcot’s most popular restaurants as well as a guaranteed seat in the theatre for the show. To me this is the best option. You are probably eating at the park anyway AND you don’t have to waste time waiting in line.

The list of Celebrity Narrators is fantastic!

Jodi Benson November 28 and 29, 2014
Neil Patrick Harris November 30 to December 2, 2014
Jonathan Groff (NEW!) December 3 and 4, 2014
Whoopi Goldberg December 5 and 6, 2014
LeVar Burton December 7 to December 9, 2014
Edward James Olmos December 10 to December 11, 2014
Joe Morton December 12 to December 14, 2014
Chita Rivera December 15 to December 17, 2014
Ana Gasteyer (NEW!) December 18 to December 20, 2014
Marlee Matlin December 21 to December 23, 2014
Isabella Rossellini December 24 and 25, 2014
Blair Underwood December 26 and 27, 2014
Steven Curtis Chapman December 28 to December 30, 2014

Performances are every night from November 28th – December 30,2014.
There are 3 performances a night at 5 PM, [6:45] PM, and [8:15] PM
EXCEPT ON
December 7th with performances being at [6:45] PM and [8:15] PM

As always, celebrity narrators and dates are subject to change without notice. They are always fantastic though.
