Walt Disney World!
Just flight of steps down from the beautiful lobby of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Victoria Falls Lounge is a fun spot for cocktails or a great glass of South African wine. A new menu released this week adds flavors of Africa and India from the resort’s various restaurants – substantial bites to pair with beverages. It’s easy, no reservations, just stop by and grab a seat at the bar or a table.
On sale now, with shows starting on Tuesday, September 30, guests can purchase a special “Dinner & A Show” package that include a ticket to the 6:00 p.m. “La Nouba” show plus dinner – an entrée, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage – at one of three Downtown Disney West Side restaurants: Wolfgang Puck Café, Planet Hollywood orSplitsville Luxury Lanes. With an option to dine by 4:30 p.m. before the show, or make it a later evening with a post-performance dinner after 8:00 p.m., there’s an option for everyone.
Beginning October 6th, Disney is debuting a Haunted Mansion themed makeup line as part of their Beautifully Disney line. The line includes nail decals, an eye shadow palette (with names like Find A Way Out!, Ghoul’s Night Out & Hurry Back) and accessory case inspired by the wallpaper in the Haunted Mansion, and a mini lipstick set (with colors named Ball & Chain, Look Alive, Bride & Doom and Ghost Host).

Frozen Summer Fun is coming to an end on September 28, taking the Frozen Fireworks, the ice skating at Oaken’s, and the Royal Welcome parade with it. The For the First Time in Forever Sing-Along will remain in Sound Stage One (not moving to American Idol) and Oaken’s will move to the former AFI Showcase at the end of the Backlot Tour. A fun little aside – Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, the ice cutters, and the ice skaters from the Royal Welcome will be appearing in the Once Upon a Christmastime Parade in the Magic Kingdom!
Over in Disneyland Paris — Main street usa. and Frontierland have begun their transformation. There are now ghosts and pumpkins on display!
Decorations arriving look similar to recent years, following the festival’s gradual reinvention from 2010 onwards.
Ghosts introduced to Main Street in 2012 have returned with a few changes. One of the best things about the popular ghosts is that they reference numerous Main Street locations — including the Dr Bitz Dental School on Town Square which has a ghost with a toothache standing out front.

Plenty of banners and “funky pumpkins” are already present, too.
Over in Frontierland, the Pumpkin Men who used to have slightly menacing, jagged grins — these days have softer smiles.

A minor revision in Frontierland is that the banners changed from orange and yellow — to orange and black, just like on Main Street.
One bigger change for 2014 is the scene on the Royal Castle Stage. Previously home to Mickey’s Halloween Treat in the Street show, Mickey’s Halloween Celebration parade is now taking place there.

the unused Le Théâtre du Château has lost its giant Mickey Mouse-shaped pumpkin, replaced by a smaller sunflower centrepiece. The green vines entwining its towers have also yet to return, so it looks like the stage overlay will now remain more low-key.

The introduction of a more “Harvest” style of spookiness is perhaps in line with rumours that Disneyland Paris will extend the Halloween season in coming years, perhaps having it begin earlier in September.

Disneyland News from our friend Randy over at Faith and the Magic Kingdom dot com

First, I reported a couple of weeks ago that “Legends of Frontierland” had been extended, but there was no word on how long. Well, now we have that word. The experience ends September 27, but the Disney Parks Blog describes that day as the one “this chapter of their saga ends,” which says to me that they’re going to do it again, with some new twists and takes on it. It’s worth visiting that day if you can, too, because the citizens of Frontierland and Rainbow Ridge are planning to make September 27th the best day ever with special events and surprises throughout the day.

When I first reported on the returning treats for Halloween Time, I said that new items would be coming as well, and now we know what they are!
· Candy corn apples, which have been covered in caramel, enrobed in dark chocolate and adorned with candy corn pieces.

· Bat Cake Pops are available in chocolate, vanilla or red velvet and are covered in dark chocolate and then adorned with black licorice wings and red chocolate eyes.

· The traditional Mickey Mouse crispy treat has been laced in white chocolate, creating a mummy effect, complete with candy-coated chocolate eyes peering from underneath the bandages.

· Pumpkin Marshmallow Wands, which are stacked jack o’ lantern faces made with fluffy marshmallows, creamy caramel, white chocolate and orange sanding sugar.

· Haunted Mansion Clock Crispies, dipped in dark chocolate and decorated with green and white vanilla-flavored chocolate, creating the classic image of the Haunted Mansion clock.
I think I may have just lapsed into a sugar coma typing that.

For a limited time starting September 26, the Big Hero 6 Sneak Peek will replace Guardians of the Galaxy and be presented in 4D with special in-theater effects at the Magic Eye Theater. It doesn’t look like Captain EO will be coming back.

And finally, a few weeks ago I shared the news that Anna & Elsa’s Boutique would be heading into the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort this fall! I have a quick update for you. Disney had a change of dates and now on September 22, Studio Disney 365 will begin its transformation, opening just a couple of weeks later as Anna & Elsa’s Boutique on October 6.

Some pretty fun and exciting Disneyland Resort news this week!

Let’s start with the food. I reported a couple of months ago on the monthly special gourmet apples being offered at the Disneyland Resort. Well, September’s apple has been announced and is now available. I don’t know if there’s an official name for it (besides “September’s gourmet apple”), but I can tell you that it looks and sounds amazing! It’s a gourmet caramel apple enrobed in sweet milk chocolate and covered in a mixture of crunchy, buttery, toffee pieces and roasted almonds, covered with a milk chocolate drizzle.

Other special treats for Halloween Time this year, beginning September 12, will include the Minnie Witch Apple, Pumpkin Seed Brittle, Pumpkin Fudge, and festive cake pops themed to creepy crawlers (spiders) and Mummy Mickey. There will also be some treats making their debut, but we don’t know yet what they are.

Speaking of Halloween, Disney’s Happiest Haunts Guided Tour returns to the Disneyland Resort with new stories and experiences! This year, the tour’s focus is on Disneyland park, where guests will learn about historical Halloween traditions, and even trick-or-treat for special goodies along Main Street, U.S.A. Throughout the park, the tour stops to experience popular Disneyland park attractions as well as the two special Halloween Time attractions, Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy.

The tour is offered each night from September 12 through October 31 and is approximately 2 ½ hours long. Theme park admission for Disneyland park is required to attend the tour. Tour offerings are subject to availability and may change without notice. For pricing and booking information (and to find out about a special discount for Disney Rewards Visa and AAA card holders, Disney Vacation Club members and Disneyland Resort Annual Passport holders) call 714-781-TOUR (8687). Also, be sure to check out the other Disneyland Resort Guided Tours at Disneyland.com/Tours.

And finally, the news I’m most excited about—I’ve been waiting for this for at least 2 years! Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, one of Walt Disney’s earliest cartoon stars, has had a presence at Disney California Adventure park for the past couple of years, from rabbit ear hats to the Oswald ice cream sundaes at Clarabelle’s, to Oswald’s Service Station, a merchandise location at the entrance to Buena Vista Street. Now, Oswald himself is set to come home to Disneyland Resort! Starting September 14, guests will finally be able to meet Oswald on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure park! I can’t wait to see him!

From Trish @DreamSweetsLove
I was listening to your latest podcast and while TDR events do not get extended it may return next year with some changes which sometimes happens. Popular or not the TDR entertainment team is always planning something new so there is always something new to look forward to!
Ok so time for some belated TDR news:
This week we saw the end of The Legend of Mythica at Tokyo DisneySea. It debuted for Tokyo DisneySea’s 5th anniversary on July 14, 2006. This show was incredible with many dancers huge intricate floats with large moving animatronics and fire and water effects, one float even bungee cords allowing some performers to do flips and bounce in the air. The was also pyro, speed boats and kites! If you have never see this show I really recommend checking it out in YouTube.
Of course the last weeks leading to the final performance many guests came to enjoy the show for one last time. Some guests even started camping out two nights before braving the heat and a thunderstorm and rain on the night before. The day of the final performance had rain early in the day but it let up in time for the show. The final show performed to a packed Mediterranean Harbor. the final performance and show effect was absolutely on point. Guests stayed and applauded not just the end if the show but the the supporting technical and guest control cast as well. As the last dancers were leaving giving high fives the the guests as they departed for the last time some were tearing up a bit.
Personally I was happy to have been able to make it to the last show. The show has a special place in our heart because it was released the year our son was born so we have watched him grow up with it and have so many fond memories of watching him enjoy it from when he was a toddler into his primary school years. Thank you to all the cast from the show designers to the dancers and characters and to those working behind the scenes!
New! Construction Begins on “Rivers of Light” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom: As the park undergoes the largest expansion in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, construction continues on a number of enhancements and additions to park offerings, including a new nighttime spectacular called “Rivers of Light.”

As part of this expansion, construction walls will be installed in Asia and additional walls will be installed around Discovery River throughout Asia and into DinoLand U.S.A.. As a result, the smoking location across from Expedition Everest will be removed as the wall is installed.

The construction wall in Asia also will impact the Wilderness Explorers Telescope Badge activity. Instead of taking part in the assigned activity (using a telescope to determine the height of the Forbidden Mountain Peak),Wilderness Explorers can identify the correct answer on a Himalayan Vista image that will appear on the construction wall and earn their badge.

Disney Food Truck Serving Breakfast at Disney’s All Star Music Resort: Breakfast options are available at the Disney Food Truck every day from 7-11:30 a.m. The food truck is parked near the Singing Spirits Pool Bar at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort. Photo Sessions

Disney offers various levels of formal photo sessions in the parks and around the resorts.
These sessions offer some beautiful backdrops for all types of photos: engagement, wedding, graduation, children and families.

Different from the PhotoPass Photographers, Disney’s Fine Art Photography will schedule an individualize portrait session with you.

They are not inexpensive, but they are a great way for a Disney family or couple to commemorate a special occasion. You can see more on their website: http://disneyfineartphotography.com/

“Frozen” fun is continuing this winter at Tokyo Disneyland Resort with a new special event called “Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Fantasy.” “Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Fantasy” will run from January 13 through March 20, 2015 at Tokyo Disneyland Park. The event will be themed to the hit film “Frozen” and offer opportunities to experience the world of ice and snow created by Elsa’s magical power.
During the event, the nighttime entertainment “Once Upon a Time” will be presented in a special version that features new scenes based on Disney’s “Frozen.” And during the day, Anna and Elsa will make appearances and greet guests along the parade route to the music of “Let It Go,” the theme song from the film.
This special winter event will be presented only at Tokyo Disneyland Park.

@thatDisneyLover – Laura Loves the pretzel stand in Fantasyland near the Pinocchio ride and near the carousel, it serves the best pretzels and also more snack items to keep you going throughout your trip without having to get into the long queues at the restaurants! Who Needs To Plan For a Trip to WDW? ~ By Guest Author Matthew Wallace

goofyquestion

One of the most asked questions I get from people is “do I really need to plan for a trip to Walt Disney World?”  In a quick answer, yes!  Let’s explore this a little deeper, because while the answer is ‘yes’, there are different levels of planning.

The first type of planner to look at is the Uber-Planner!  This is the person who has to have EVERYTHING planned to the second!  They may begin their initial planning anywhere between one and two years in advance of their trip.  They begin looking at dates, figuring out potential resorts, looking at crowd calendars just to get an ‘idea’ of what the next trip could look like.  They will probably even make the initial resort reservation to make it real!  At the one year mark, they will refine their crowd numbers, and begin planning meals, parks, and attractions for each day.  There will be little room for changes, as long as Disney World doesn’t mess things up with their scheduling.

The second type is what I like to call the thumbnail sketch planner!  This person just wants to know a few of the basics!  They will look at when to travel, where to stay, and basic days in parks.  They may book the three allowed Fastpass+s they are allowed per day, but not really go much beyond that stage in their planning.  Meals will likely be just quick service, or a potential walk up, on the fly.  And, the remainder of each day will be relaxed, and allow time to take in some of the detail.  They may even take some time to search out a Hidden Mickey or two!

Finally, we have the ”I don’t need a plan” planner!  They may book a room three months out, put together one or two special meals, if they want them.  But, otherwise, there is no specific plan to their trip.  This planner may choose to not use Fastpass in any form!  They may choose to just walk-on as many rides and attractions as they can in a completely open daytime schedule.  They will catch a meal if they are hungry, with no plans as to where or when!  And, there may even be days when they choose NOT to go to a park and just make use of the resort amenities.

So, what kind of planner do YOU need to be?  It really depends on the needs of you and your family!  Special events at WDW require advanced planning.  And, the farther out, the better chances you have of making that event special!  Remember, Advanced Dining Reservations (including tours, dessert parties, etc.) open up at or about the 180 day point.  If you are wanting to do any Character Dining in the parks, this is very important to remember!  And, as a reminder, if you are staying at a Disney-Owned Resort, you can make your dining reservations at 180 plus 10 days into your vacation.

There are a lot of online tools that can help you, regardless of the type of planner you might be.  And, we will explore those tools next time!

About the Author:

MWMatthew Wallace is a Disney World fan from Ohio, and has been crazy about the place since his first visit on October 2, 1982!  In the four years following, he made a total of eight visits, and deepened his love for The Magic Kingdom and EPCOT Center parks.  The years that followed brought challenges to making too many more visits for awhile.  Then, in February 2012, he returned with his family for a new first, seeing the wonders of Walt Disney World through the eyes of his children, and wife.

During that visit, two of his daughters have caught the bug and want to visit The Vacation Kingdom, as often as possible!  As a family, they made another trip in December 2013.  And, there is currently a trip planned for September 2015! (Hoping for some Food and Wine!)

Matthew is also the owner of the threestrandswdw online blog that can be found at: www.threestrandswdw.com.
